This question is one I am often asked, as unfortunately I can’t give a set answer without first establishing the work required.
However there will be guidance listed below as to what sort of price range you can expect.
There are 3 defining factors that equate to cost :
Size
Materials
And time/ complexity
Each tend to decide one another , for example if a client approaches me with a completion date in mind for example a birthday in a week , this would limit the options of size / materials.
For smaller budgets , illustrative and digital work / prints are offered or a smaller size in physical work
Pencil portraits are what I’m most approached to do and these are also the most time consuming pieces!
Size:
Commissions start at a5
Standard pencil portraits are normally a4 /a3 in size but larger and differently shaped commissions can be completed .
Materials:
Coloured pencils / pencil portraits tend to be the most complex and time consuming due to blending ,fine detail.
Time:
How long Each commision takes is independently determined by the size and type of materials used.
If portraits, the amount of subjects also determines this, as well as whether you have chosen a background, as backgrounds again require additional time.
Typically I require 2 weeks from time of commission to complete an a4 portrait , though it on average only takes me 6 hours to do , i do not tend to do it in one sitting.
Pricing Guidance
These prices are approximate and may vary slightly dependent on the complexity of the composition provided by the client, or if the size requested is different from those stated here.
I require a 50% deposit to secure the booking , the final deposit is paid when you are happy with the outcome !
Additional subjects can be added at request for an additional 25% cost
